Clutch kits

A clutch kit is a collection of manual transmission parts. They are either bought as a unit or assembled piecemeal. The role of the clutch kit is to provide all the necessary components used to repair the clutch on a manual transmission.

The components of a clutch kit;

As mentioned earlier, clutch kits are made up of a wide range of components. Below are the most essential these components;

•The pressure plate- this component is usually loaded with release springs. Its role is to secure the clutch assembly. It keeps it in place by putting tension on it. When the clutch needs to rotate, this component eases up the tension allowing it to spin freely. According to professionals, the pressure plate is the most critical component of the entire clutch kit.

•The clutch disc- the main role of this component is to transmit power from the vehicle’s engine to the driving mechanism. It is equally as important as the pressure plate.

•Release bearing- this component is usually pressed against the pressure plate diaphragm when pressure is applied to the pedal. This results in a release of pressure plate clamping force on the clutch friction disc. As a result, the engine’s power is set aside from the transmission.

•Pilot bearing- When the clutch is disengaged, the engine crankshaft and transmission input shaft usually rotate at varying speeds. The pilot bearing is responsible for this speed difference. Therefore, when the pilot bearing is faulty, it makes a lot of noise as the clutch is depressed and wholly disengaged.

•Alignment tool- the tip of this component lock into the bearing. Doing this keeps the clutch in place. The clutch has two sides. One of them is marked to the flywheel. The alignment tool also works to ensure these parts are installed correctly for proper functioning. Note that not all clutch kits come with an alignment tool. Sometimes, you may have to purchase the component separately.

Most clutch kits are designed that the release bearing is a critical component of the slave cylinder. In such cases, the slave cylinder is part of the clutch kit. It is also worth noting that the components may differ from one brand or seller to the next.

Final word

The clutch disc and all the other parts or components mentioned above are prone to wear. This means that they will need to be replaced eventually. Therefore, owning a clutch kit can come in handy. However, it is worth mentioning that the release veering and the pressure plate do not wear the same speed as the other components of the clutch kit. However, it would still be best if you acquired complete clutch kits. Advanced Clutch Technology offers the best clutch kits in the market. They are classified according to the car model and the components of the kit.
